Hundreds of underprivileged residents of Kalinga province in the Philippines received free medical and dental services during an outreach event on February 16th, 2024.
The program was organized by Dr. Joy Gunnawa-Soriano, a UNICEF and Global Dental Relief volunteer, in collaboration with the provincial health office, hospital, medical and dental societies, and the provincial government. It offered 1,000 slots for medical consultations, laboratory services, imaging, and dental services such as extractions and fillings. In total, 466 individuals utilized the medical services and 403 got dental care.
Dr. Soriano noted that the outreach activity aligns with her mission to aid disadvantaged communities in the Philippines, especially her hometown of Kalinga. She expressed gratitude to her global network of friends that chipped in to support the effort.
Overall, the collaborative health outreach provided critical services to hundreds of patients in need. According to Dr. Soriano, it represents one of many initiatives to continue helping underprivileged populations in the country.
